Dear Diary, Today is my birthday. My mother gave me a dollar and told me to spend it on anything I wanted for my birthday. As I walked down the street I looked into a bookstore window. I wished I could have gotten a book, but there was the library and surely someone would notice if I had a book... but then I saw something. It had a leather cover and a yellow ribbon around it. and on it, in beautiful black ink, were the words, 'The Diary Of__________'. The rest had to be filled out. I went into the store and asked how much it cost. I could afford it! I asked the shop keeper to write, 'Rivkah Shmerling' in the part that was blank in the same ink. After he did, I walked out of the store with the diary in my hands. I looked at it's beautiful cover and loved it... but now I'm afraid that Mama or Papa will see it. I shall have to keep this diary a secret. and keep it in the secret pocket of my coat.
