History:
Quince was born into a working class family in a small British town. His father was the town butcher, and his mother mainly stayed home to care for the house and children. Quince of course was not the only Lavallier child, he was actually the third youngest of nine. As boy he and his siblings were taught by their mother, who was incredibly well educated for her social status. By the age of ten he had a job, and like his other brothers, his salary went to helping the family because it was much too large to exist on father’s pay alone.
By seventeen he was one of only four children still living with the family, for the rest had grown in age and moved out. Quince did the same, parting with his parents and moving away to a new town not knowing the path before him. He spent most of his years [until recently that is] traveling around Britain taking various jobs. He worked as a farrier’s assistant at one point, built houses in a small town for a while, and even was an metal worker’s apprentice but had to let go of the occupation when he tore his rotator cuff [he has since made a full recovery]. He has always worked for his living, and although the pay has usually been rather menial, he supports himself and relies on no one.
Quince later took a job in Belfast as constructive worker, building a ship soon to be called the RMS Titanic. He watched her grow from just blue prints on paper to a ship of paramount size and quality. By far the most extraordinary ship he had ever seen. She was far too grand to be true. The ship of dreams does the RMS Titanic no justice, in his eyes, she was something greater than even dreams.
After the ships completion he was offered a steady job as an officer because of the prior knowledge of the Titanic he held. He turned the job down though. His family had fallen on hard times and he had heard of great job opportunities in America. If he was in the states he could possibly get a well paying job, then mail checks back to his family in Britain. So Quince gathered all his savings and counted them carefully to find that he was short only by a few. One of his brothers lent him the remaining money he needed to buy a third class ticket on the RMS Titanic. The deal was sealed, he was going to sail to America on the same ship that he had contributed to.

was a former crew member, currently unemployed though
